Ever since Deirdre Loughridge and I launched the website Museum of Imaginary Musical Instruments in 2013, we dreamed of one day turning it into a book. Next year, that dream will become a reality, thanks to Reaktion Books in London.
It's going to be gorgeous. Get an eyeful of the cover design below, featuring Remedios Varo's painting Música Solar (1955), one of the 88(!) images in the book, about half in color.
The book is slated to be released in June 2026, distributed in the US by the University of Chicago Press. It should come out a bit earlier than that via Reaktion in the UK.
In the meantime, catch up with the website. There are things on there that won't be in the book, and vice versa.
